Dr Victor KongSpecialist Trauma Surgeon, Auckland, NZ
Victor is a Specialist Trauma Surgeon with an interest in academic surgery. Raised in Hong Kong, he studied medicine in New Zealand and began his surgical training in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and South Africa. After obtaining his MRCS in England, he completed his Master of Surgical Sciences and Master of Surgery from the University of Edinburgh, graduating both with distinction.
He joined the University of KwaZulu Natal in Durban, South Africa, focusing on trauma surgery, and obtained his PhD in 2014. He subsequently completed his MD at University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. |
Victor returned to New Zealand to complete his specialist surgical training and earned his FRACS in 2020. He then completed the ANZAST subspecialist training programme in trauma surgery and undertook further fellowship training at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, Canada.
Throughout his career, Victor has demonstrated his commitment to trauma research and education. His research interests include selective non-operative management of penetrating torso trauma, complex multisystem blunt trauma and operative trauma training. Alongside authoring over 200 publications and giving over 70 conference presentations, he has taught numerous courses internationally and currently serves as an instructor for ATLS and ALS.
