Health NZ Emergency Management Advisor/Former Soldier
Jono Magee is a Health NZ Emergency Management Advisor and former soldier with a career spanning training, operations management, and organisational resilience.
In 2020, while training for a skydiving competition, Jono suffered a catastrophic accident that left him critically injured and fighting for his life. He survived severe traumatic brain injury, major haemorrhage, multiple fractures, months of hospitalisation, and years of rehabilitation. His survival depended on multiple systems of care working together, from first responders and pre-hospital critical care teams through to surgery and rehabilitation. Following his recovery, Jono returned to professional roles within the military before transitioning to the New Zealand health sector. Drawing on experience from military operations, emergency management, and personal recovery, Jono speaks about resilience, human performance under pressure, recovery from adversity, and the critical role integrated systems play in achieving extraordinary outcomes. |
