Alpesh Patel

Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon, Counties Manukau DHB, Auckland, NZ
Mr Alpesh Patel is an Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon at Counties Manukau District Health Board (CMDHB) in Auckland, New Zealand. He is the Clinical Lead of the Supra Regional Spinal Cord Injury Service at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland. Alpesh is a Governance Group member of the New Zealand Spinal Cord Injury Registry (NZSCIR) and is involved in collaborative research of Spinal Cord Impairment in New Zealand and Canada. His clinical role involves managing spinal injuries along with adult degenerative conditions, infections, primary and secondary tumours of the spine, and Tetraplegic upper limb surgery.

NZ Destination Policies for Patients with Spinal Cord Impairment: Impact and Effectiveness

The latest update on neurological recovery following Spinal Cord Impairment (SCI) in New Zealand will be discussed, along with current NZ Destination Policy guidelines. Information on the time of admission to a spinal cord injury centre following an injury and the time to decompression will be shown. Results from recent studies using the New Zealand Spinal Cord Injury Registry (NZSCIR) will be presented.
